A downloadable game for Windows

Mina finds a mountain, and there is only one thing to be done. As she climbs, the situation evolves into something... else.

Rhythm Ascent is a university project created by Coral Sapon-Borson, Connor Bogard, and Jesse Stark. The baseline character controller was made by Stan Verspui. The button prompts used are credited to Nicolae "Xelu" Berbece.

Extra Notes:

Project use time (possibly inflated by idling): 16 Days 6 Hours 21 Minutes 7 Seconds

Made over the course of six weeks for EMDA 203: Coding and Narrative Design. Timeline was 23 April 2023 - 8 June 2023.

Reflection:

I am mostly proud of what I've helped make here. That is to say, I'm proud of the effort I put in, and the creative strategies I developed. The game itself is a piece of crap. The hitboxes are unreliable, the game is way too hard to the point that nobody on my team can get very far, including me. I was able to successfully implement Jesse's art in a way I found satisfying, and Connor and I made some music that I think is honestly pretty good for our skill levels and experience with Muse Score. In the future, I'm going to try to make easier games before aiming at the weird pedestal of "difficult but not unfair."
